The Frontier is Everywhere

I loved this "unofficial" NASA promotional video. Narrated by Carl Sagan... Beautiful!

Bolden vs Grayson

Mr. Bolden has no idea what he's talking about! Thank you Mr. Grayson. So apparently the next destination is the moon... but wait, they plan to cancel the Constellation program... hmmm. So where is our space program going?

International Space Station, Indexed

I was blog browsing and found this funny on Indexed, titled "Astronomical Costs":

This index card gave me a laugh, I had to share. This is the only thing space related that has made me smile in a while (see my Save Constellation post). To be clear, I think the Space Station and human space flight in general are worth the "astronomical cost".

UPDATE: Endeavour, Flight STS-130/20A launches tomorrow (Sunday) at 4:39 AM EST. Shuttle launches to ISS make me smile! I *almost* forgot.

Save Constellation

This week, the Obama administration published the 2011 budget which cancels NASA's Constellation program. Constellation is/was the human spaceflight program intended to replace the Space Shuttle when it retires this October. So what will replace this canceled program? Nothing. No more goals for human space flight! As a girl that grew up wanting to be an astronaut, I really have a hard time wrapping my head around this...

I am writing my congress representatives... if you want the U.S. to remain a leader in space please write to yours! You can find their contact information here.

NASA Rover in Inaugural Parade

Here are some videos of NASA's Lunar Electric Rover (LER) that was in the Inaugural Parade yesterday! I know I'm delinquent on blog posts, but I'm off to a slow start this year. I have a few posts in the works that I hope to have posted in the next week - including one about my resolutions for 2009 with a recap of all the go-green changes I made in 2008.

For now, here's some cool NASA stuff!

NASA's 50th Anniversary

NASA is celebrating their 50th anniversary this year by sharing mission film footage (now in HD) collected over the past 50 years. The 6 part series, called When We Left Earth will be aired in 2 hour increments over the next 3 Sundays, beginning tomorrow June 8th. This article discusses how the film was brought out of storage and restored to make the series.

Check out the trailer for the series, it gave me goose bumps!
